Web Design & Development
Is this a good place to mention that I've been building business websites since 1996?
That's almost as long as webistes have been around. Back in 1995 in upstate New York, I participated in one of the early "freenet" projects, an early internet service provider (ISP) and web hosting service provided through SUNY Albany. Among their first websites were the ones I built in 1996 for local community organizations. I built one of the first ecommerce sites for and arts school, and automated its class catalog. Admittedly, our sites in those days were pretty bare-bones. That was a long time ago in Web years! Today's Web has become a media-rich, market-savvy, and frequently very expensive. Leaving aside enormous operations like CNN.com and YouTube, even today's local business websites employ polls, video and dynamic content just to keep pace with the competition and to keep makiing it into the search results.
Website How-toThe first step is to decide what you want your website to do for you. And it doesn't hurt to think big; you can always scale your site to what works for you and what you can afford. Next, get some expert input. We'll do that for free in our initial consultation. Bounce ideas back and forth to get an idea about making your vision something that can be accomplished. Ask questions. Give me a call directly at 918-406-3998 if you like. I'm always ready to talk Web. Then make a plan for what you'll do now, what you'll do next, and what the website should be able to do 12 months down the road. Budget each stage. Then ask your Web development contractor (hopefully Lightloom Design) for a quote for Step 1, Step 2, etc. Make sure they include hosting and maintenance costs. Maintenance is extremely important, because you'll want to be able to change things around frequently. And make sure that you'll own all of the text and graphical elements in your website, and not have to share copyrights with the contractor. Take a look over on the right at some of the sites we've built recently, and then give us a call.
